Recently, Mr. Kezer was recognized by the California League of Middle Schools as a VIP Educator of the Year. Mr. Kezer is now in his 24th year as principal of Mountain View Middle School in the Beaumont Unified School District. Prior to coming to Beaumont, Mr. Kezer served as a high school teacher and a K-8 assistant principal in the Moreno Valley school district.
As one could imagine, his tenure has been one of tremendous growth and change. What was once a small 7/8 Junior High School has transitioned into a large 6-8 Middle School. Years before other schools and prior to NCLB mandates, Mr. Kezer implemented such revolutionary concepts such as additional time for language arts instruction to address student learning needs, math support for struggling learners, and programs such as “step-up” for students in danger of retention. These supports, along with a day-to-day high-quality instructional program, have served generations of students in Beaumont. This last year, Mountain View achieved the goal of reaching an API of over 800, growing 38 points for an API of 823.
Beyond the impact at his own school, Mr. Kezer’s influence and mentorship is on display throughout the Beaumont district and beyond. Every previous assistant principal that has served with him has become a principal of their own school, and some have continued to district leadership positions. As the “dean” of principals in Beaumont, his wisdom, experience, and perspective is valued and respected by his peers and district leaders.
Mr. Kezer is the embodiment of a dedicated professional educator that has a profound effect on the lives of students.
